NOISE SUPPRESSION PEDALS

Guitarists who use lots of pedals, play super high-gain amps or play in electrically noisey environments often need to clean-up their signal using some method of noise supression.

These pedals can usually be split into two families, gates and reducers. Gates will be set to cut or "gate" your signal immidiatly after the signal drops below a pre-determined level muting any background noise. Reducers have circuits which remove hum and noise from signals without gating any signal.

CODA TIP:

"The placement of noise supression pedals can be tricky and is worth experimenting with to get it right. In general nasty sounding noise floors will be amplified and made worse by your gain-adding pedals like overdrives, distortions and fuzzes, Putting a noise supressor after them will cancel unwanted noise before it hits your modulation pedals. More intuitive noise reduction pedals often have in/outs so you can create a low-noise loop to dump all your "dirty" devices in!"
