National first unveiled its pioneering resonator mandolins back in the early 1930s, and they keep the tradition alive with their modern versions. They proudly echo the original National catalog and say that their instruments “retain the clear, ringing tone typical of a good mandolin, yet the cone amplifier makes possible the volume wanted for ensemble playing.” The RM1 was two years in R&D before it was finally ready for production. It boasts traditional features such as an A-style body, biscuit bridge, and vintage-style open-gear tuners, combined with modern appointments, including an intonated saddle and the comfortably radiused, extended fretboard topping the highly figured Maple neck. The body is carved from Walnut, with a beautifully figured Maple top. This Mandolin features a National Hotplate with Lollar special pickup.
